The jackfruit burger is a popular vegetarian and vegan alternative to the traditional meat burger. The main ingredient is jackfruit, a tropical fruit known for its meat-like texture when cooked. It has a mild flavor that absorbs spices and flavors well, making it a versatile ingredient for a variety of dishes.
For the jackfruit burger, the fruit is typically cooked in some kind of barbecue or seasoning sauce and then shredded to create the appearance of pulled meat. It is then served on a bun, often with various toppings such as lettuce, tomatoes, onions, and sauces.
One advantage of the jackfruit burger is that it is a good source of fiber and vitamin C. Furthermore, it is often lower in calories and fat than a meat burger.

This burger completely blew me away – really juicy and simply perfect for anyone who misses meat! – Prime Recipes

1 tsp caraway powder
Black pepper
Preparation in 6 steps
For the coleslaw: Remove the stalk from the pointed cabbage and cut into fine strips. Peel the carrot, trim the ends, and coarsely grate. Add salt, sugar, caraway powder, olive oil, and vinegar and knead everything thoroughly by hand. Season with pepper. Let stand for at least 15–30 minutes.
For the burger: Peel the onion and slice it into thin rings. Slice the jalapeño into thin rings. Drain the jackfruit. Preheat oil in a pan on the stovetop over medium heat.
Add the jackfruit and sear on all sides for about 5 minutes. Season with your choice of rub and sear for another 2 minutes. Add the vegan BBQ sauce, mix, and remove from the heat. Shred the jackfruit with a fork and set aside.
Preheat gas grill to medium direct heat and place the reversible plate, flat side up, in the direct zone of the grill.
Cut the buns open and brush both sides with margarine. Toast them cut-side down on the baking tray for about 30 seconds.
Top the bottom bun halves with coleslaw, jackfruit, jalapeños, and onions. Place the top bun halves on the burger.
