American Burger
For the burger
2 burger buns
200 g ground beef (100 g each)
6 slices of bacon
2 slices of cheddar / processed cheese
1 red onion
1 tomato
2 servings of mayonnaise
2 servings of barbecue sauce
4 leaves of Lollo Bianco lettuce
20 g butter
Salt & pepper
Oil for frying
Preparation in 8 steps
1. Prepare the vegetables
Peel the onion and cut into approximately 0.5 cm thick rings. Cut the tomato into approximately 0.5 cm thick slices. Wash the lettuce leaves (e.g., Lollo Bianco) thoroughly and shake dry.
2. Form and chill the patties
Divide the ground beef into two equal-sized balls and flatten them into patties using a burger press or a sturdy spatula. Then cover and refrigerate to retain their shape.
3. Prepare the grill or pan
Preheat the stovetop with a pan and a little oil, or preheat a gas grill with a reversible plate to direct high heat.
4. Fry the onions
Add a little oil to the hot pan and fry the onion rings for 2-3 minutes until nicely browned. Then set aside.
5. Prepare the bacon
Fry the bacon on the grill or in a pan with the lid closed for about 4 minutes until crispy. Set aside.
6. Fry the patties and top with cheese
Fry the chilled patties on both sides in a pan or on the grill with a little oil. Just before the end of the cooking time, place two slices of cheddar cheese on each patty. Then let it rest in the indirect grill zone or under a burger cover for about 2 minutes until the cheese melts.
7. Toast the buns
Cut the burger buns in half, brush the cut sides with butter, and toast on the grill or in a pan for about 30 seconds until golden brown.
8. Assemble the burgers
Spread mayonnaise on the bottom half of the bun. Then top with lettuce, tomato slices, patty with cheese, crispy bacon, and fried onions. Brush the top half of the bun with barbecue sauce to finish the burger.
💡 Save calories –
Total savings potential: 👉 Up to 200–300 kcal per serving if you:
Reduce the bacon to 2 slices per burger (instead of 6 total)
Halve the mayonnaise or replace it with low-fat yogurt or light mayo
Use barbecue sauce sparingly (e.g., 1 teaspoon each instead of 2 servings)
Omit the butter or use only a very thin layer for toasting buns
Use only 1 teaspoon of oil per pan when frying or use oil spray
👉 This way, the burger stays hearty and full of flavor, while significantly reducing fat and calories.
