Updated: May 16

Time: 30 min | Difficulty: Easy

The Candied Bacon Burger is a delicious combination of sweet and savory. This burger typically features a juicy beef patty topped with a sweet and sticky layer of candied bacon. This particular bacon is caramelized by cooking it in brown sugar or maple syrup, giving it a sweet, crunchy texture. The burger can also be topped with other ingredients such as cheese, tomatoes, onions, and various sauces. The Candied Bacon Burger is a unique flavor explosion that will delight both burger and bacon lovers.

Alternatively, you can prepare the bacon and burger patty in your kitchen and oven at home instead of on the grill.

For the Candied Bacon Burger

  • 2 burger buns

  • 200 g ground beef (80/20) per patty

  • 2 cheddar cheeses / processed cheese

  • head / romaine lettuce

  • 1/2 tomato

  • Oil for frying

Candied bacon

  • 6 slices smoked bacon

  • 2 tsp brown sugar

  • Dash of black pepper

Aioli sauce

  • 2 tbsp mayonnaise

  • A squeeze of lemon juice

  • 1 garlic clove (crushed)

  • 1 tsp parsley

  • Dash of salt & black pepper

  • 1/2 cup milk (or nut milk)

Preparation in 5 steps

  1. Prepare candied bacon:

Place the bacon on an oven rack or grill. Sprinkle each slice with brown sugar and season with a little black pepper. Bake in a preheated oven at 230°C for about 25 minutes, until the bacon is crispy and caramelized.

  2. Make the aioli sauce:

While the bacon is in the oven, combine mayonnaise, a squeeze of lemon juice, a crushed garlic clove, finely chopped parsley, and salt and pepper to make a creamy aioli.

  3. Fry the patties:

Heat a pan or griddle with a little oil. Fry the burger patties on both sides for a few minutes until cooked to your desired doneness. Season one side with salt and pepper. After turning, place a slice of cheddar cheese on each slice and let it melt.

  4. Toast the buns:

Brush the burger buns with softened butter and toast them cut-side down in a pan or on the grill until golden brown.

  5. Assemble the burgers:

Brush the bottom half of the bun with aioli sauce, top with romaine lettuce, a burger patty, a layer of candied bacon, and another layer of aioli. Optionally, repeat with a second patty or more bacon—and finish with the top bun.

💡 Save calories –

Total savings potential: 👉 Up to 200–300 kcal per serving if you:

Use lean ground beef (max. 15% fat) instead of 80/20 – saves approximately 80–100 kcal

  • Use only 2–3 slices of bacon instead of 6 – the candied effect is retained

  • Reduce the cheese to 1 slice per burger or use light processed cheese

  • Prepare the aioli with 1 tablespoon of low-fat mayonnaise + yogurt

  • Use oil sparingly when frying or use oil spray

  • Halve the amount of sugar in the candied bacon (1 teaspoon is enough for the effect)

👉 This way, the burger stays flavorful, sweet, creamy, and juicy, but with significantly less fat and hidden sugar
